The “Tea App”: Is the App Ruining Relationships?

The Tea app is an app that lets girls judge male characters. It has gained a lot of popularity and allows them to either give them red flags or green flags, with red being bad and green being good. However, it's also leading to a lot of issues among friends. What began as just an app to exchange secrets has quickly turned into an app that starts drama amongst friends and even relationships.

The app lets people post about others, often without names, but everyone usually figures out who it's about. Some people think it’s funny, but others are getting hurt. As my classmate Marissa Toweson said, “it's funny to see girls come together to talk about boys, who think they're ‘men’.” That shows how the app can bring people together but for the wrong reasons. Instead of helping each other, people use it to gossip or get revenge.

On the other side, there are people who get hurt by what's being said. My classmate Leland Berg shared, “It sucks being talked about and not being able to stand up for yourself.” This shows how unfair it feels when rumors spread and you can't do anything to stop them.

The Tea app may seem fun at first, but it spreads lies and causes drama that can ruin friendships and relationships. Instead of talking behind screens, people should talk face to face and solve problems the right way. If we keep using apps like this to tear each other down, no one is ever going to win. Real friendships need trust, not gossip. The Tea app might spill “tea” but in the end, it just leaves everyone burned.
